THE MARKS

First of all, well done.

Gemma B, Mitch and Louise should definitely get their own blogs. Verity and Anna Z should consider this too - always something interesting to say, even if the volume of posting was not quite as great as with the other three.

This is not an easy project to mark, but I set out the criteria below, and then the marks. There are three criteria:

Activity on your thread (stop grinning, Beccy!) - out of six
Your actvity on all threads - out of six
Cogency of your contributions - out of eight

Please note, these are the marking criteria for PMR 2006-07. Any other classes or other years, I reserve the right to adopt different criteria.

In terms of activity on the threads, there are no prizes for guessing the highest mark here. Well done Beccy for choosing a topic that got so many - in and outside the class - involved. Everyone had a go, though, and generated at least some debate, so everyone got at least a pass mark (3/6) on this criterion.

Activity on threads: I only counted substantive posts. Duplicate posts, apologies for duplicated posts, and brief comments such as 'thanks, Mitch' did not count. Brief posts which made a genuine contribution to the debate - such as Lucie's opener on Beccy's thread did count. I did not count contributions to the Social thread or most of the contributions to the Welcome. Louise, and the discussion she started there are a clear exception to the latter rule. On this criterion specifically, not everyone passed. I opened the first thread on 04 October. Those of you who made fewer than 10 substantive contributions did not pass this element of the mark scheme.

Cogency is the most important element and received a slightly higher weighting as a result. Several of you got seven out of eight under this heading - including Sandie, who made fewer contributions than anyone else, but always with clarity and intellect. Others who consistently made
intelligent contributions to the debate - and on a wide variety of topics - were Gemma B, Verity, Beccy, Anna Z and Louise.

The criteria are, of course, open for discussion. This is a blog, after all. After some very solid work on this, I may not be willing to change much though.

Below are your marks under each of the criteria followed by your total, out of 20.
